Derek -Tommo- Thompson is one of the best-known names in the world of horse racing. Frequently referred to as -the voice of horse racing-, his rich and resonant tones are instantly recognisable and admired globally. Also known as -king of the one-liners- Tommo brings laughter with a touch of star quality wherever he goes. Who in racing doesn-t associate him with -It-s a photo! -That's one for the judge!-; -are you well? I thought you were!-; -it-s a man actually, Derek!--
Tommo has been commentating, hosting and presenting around the world for many years. In fact his relationship with the microphone started at just 15 when his father unexpectedly handed him the mic mid-race during a point-to-point. From that moment he was hooked and he went onto become the youngest ever commentator of The Grand National at just 22 years when Red Rum came home victorious for the first time. He has since called home many of the equine megastars including Frankel winning his debut in 2010 and Dubai Millennium in the Dubai World Cup 2000.
